Aim was to evaluate the functional results, intra/postoperative complications after phacoemulsification and IOL implantation in vitrectomised eyes.
Patients and Methods: In a two year period 40 patients (13 female, 27 male, age ranged 13-80 Y( average 58 Y) underwent phacoemulsification with or without IOL implantation. Phaco was carried out after 14,2 M (2-48 M). Out of 11 silicone filled eyes only in two were silicone oil removal possible. Follow-up: 4,4M (1-22 M).
Results: Visual acuity improved in 29, remained unchanged in 5, decreased in 6 eyes. Fluctuation of AC, capsule rupture were most frequent intraoperative complications. In the postop. period transient corneal decompensation and IOP elevation occured most often.
Conclusion: With cautious approach most of the complications can be avoided and good functional results can be achieved. Phacoemulsification and IOL implantation in vitrectomised eyes does not interfere with the retinal status, visual outcome depends on the underlying disease.
