The Use of Sulcoflex Multifocal IOLs
Muhtaseb M
Singleton Hospital, Swansea (Great Britain)
Four eyes of three patients had implantation of a Sulcoflex Multifocal intraocular lens (Rayner, UK). One eye of 1 patient had
a hyperopic refractive surprise after routine phakoemulsification and no prior laser refractive surgery, 1 eye of 1 patient had a hyperopic
refractive surprise after routine phakoemulsification and but had undergone prior laser refractive surgery, and 2 eyes of 1 patient
had previously undergone laser refractive surgery but were emmetropic after routine phakoemulsification. All patients desired
spectacle independence for distance and near vision and so underwent lens implantation as above. All were emmetropic post-operatively
with unaided visual acuity of 6/6 to 6/7.5 for distance and N5 for near. The Sulcoflex Multifocal IOL is a useful tool in the management
of pseudophakic patients, with or without refractive error, that desire spectacle independence.
