Anterior Segment Imaging for Refractive Surgery with Optical Coherence Tomography

Precede: The anterior segment OCT (Visante OCT) showed promising capabilities for refractive surgery.
Methods: Pre-operative and post-operative evaluation of patient's eyes using OCT measurements of the cornea and the anterior chamber. Pachymetry maps were taken before LASIK surgery to evaluate whether corneal thickness was sufficient. Postoperatively flap and residual stromal thickness were measured and the ablation profile was evaluated by calculating the pre- and post-operative difference. Prior to phakic IOL surgery the anterior segment dimensions were determined. Postoperatively the implant was imaged in the anterior chamber and safety distance measurements were taken.
Results: Measurements in both LASIK and phakic IOL surgery helped pre-operative surgical planning and post-operative care by providing precise anterior segment measurement.
Conclusions: OCT is a promising technology for pre- and postoperative measurements in both laser refractive surgery and phakic IOL implantation.
