Aim: To examine the effect of 10 minutes oculopression on the
depth of anterior chamber (AC) in cataract patients with shallow
AC. Methods: Ten minutes oculopression was applied in 10 eyes
with the use of a Honan balloon. AC depth was measured by OcuScan
RxP (Alcon, USA) ophthalmic ultrasound, using the non-contact
(water-bath) technique. Depth of AC and axial length (Axl) was measured
before oculopression, immediately after, and 10 minutes after
the removal of oculopression. Results: The average AC depth was
2.318mm (Axl = 23.496 mm) before the use of oculopression, and it
was 2.245mm (Axl = 23.455 mm) and 3.075mm (Axl = 23.482 mm)
immediately and 10 minutes after the removal of the oculopression
respectively. Conclusion: Preoperatively shallow AC can be deepened
by applying 10 minutes oculopression and waiting another
10 minutes for safer phacoemulsification.
